Spring to Arrive

It was I and a few wildflowers,
Shivering in wind and calming in the sunshine.
We saw the rest of the world withering,
As we waited for the spring to arrive.
It was I and a carpet of rustling leaves,
Waiting for the woods to bloom
And new colors to thrive,
As we waited for the spring to arrive.
It was I and the whistling birds,
Gazing at plums and berries to ripe.
And together wanted new flavors,
As we waited for the spring to arrive.
Today, its I and widespread colors,
Smiling at vibrant blooms and fragrant flavors
And remembering autumn
As the spring did arrive.
